My new band 'The Way Out',i just discovered, shares the same publicist(Adrenaline PR) as my new favourite band-The Mars Volta.
In the crush of stinky stinky music out there,a friend lent me thier latest on Universal in Febuary.WOW-soo different. Of course its not everyones cup of tea,but hey music has to progress somehow. She(Rikki, our intrepid lady of PR)said she submitted them to MD and the review should be in the latest issue.Cant remember the drummers name offhand, but man hes smokin, totally trained for sure. They comin to Vancouver in December. Beat-Hit,apparently they're playin very soon in TO,check them!!!
On the same note the new Daniel Lanois-'Shine',w. Brian Blade on drums,is singularily the prettiest album ive heard in awhile.Cool production and beautiful melodies.
This girl gave me a copy of Roy Hayne's Charlie Parker tribute-'Birds of a Feather'.OMG,great great great drumming. Only 'the stlyish one' and Vinnie can master time like no other.
Seek these recordings out,u wont be dissappointed.Well most of u wont...........xoxoxo beats........THE WAY OUT....VERY SOON MY FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!(maybe warner/atlantic)....lol.

At last!!!! Someone mentions probably the most creative band to come along in years...THE MARS VOLTA! A good friend of mine turned me on to their stuff and I can't stop listening to it. The drummer is Jon Theodore and he just received a great review in the CRITIQUE section of MD. Absolutely incredible performances and Flea also played bass on the record as well as a performance from J Frusciante.

Very cool band indeed, I bought the CD prior to watching them last Tuesday and as expected it was quite hard for them to "recreate" sum of the parts live, and unfortunately the drummer was poorly mixed and the keyboard loops weren't even audiable but whatever.(the drummer was playing a Vistalite Kit I think with Zildjian K's and sum stack with rivets on the bottom im sure , I also spotted "JoJo" sticks *laughs*)
The music brings new light to the shallow/stale state of rock music in America mixing influences from Zeppelin(the jamming ofcourse, nevermind the drummers stamina and power), and also abit of Rush/Yes .
I'm glad Cedric doesn't sing like a fucking moron anymore but his stage persona is just so freaking fake, if it reminds you of Scott Weiland/Anthony K then I guess that's the purpose. It could have something to do with being on GSL. Seems to breed some of the best releases from bands. I just hope Rick Rubin being on board doesn't ruin this band like he's ruined so many others. I don't think Mars Volta will ever be able to touch the At the Drive-In stuff. I think the last At the Drive-In record was just about the peak of their powers. I enjoyed Cedric's stage presence, actually. I saw At the Drive-In play some church in Maryland a few years ago and Cedric was swingin' freegin' 30 feet of mic cable over his head and falling off the monitors. It was insane.

Hey guys, thanks for the heads-up on Mars Volta. I was wondering what happened to At The Drive-Inn. Definitely, for me, one of the best records to come out in awhile was Relationship of Command. Never saw them live though, I hear they were ten times more intense.
I checked some clips on the website but could'nt really get an overall feel for the album. How does the MarsVolta material compare to At Drive-Inn?

DANGIT!!! My roommates called me last night from a club here in Dallas telling me that the drummer from Mars Volta was really good, and that I needed to come up there and check it out, but I was so tired that I stayed home and went to bed!!!! AAAGGGHHHHHHH!!! I should have gone!!! They said he played a "clear shelled, plastic looking" set, and as you just said, sounded like a schooled player. DAMNIT!!!

Thanks for the reviews. I guess I'll have to get it anyway.
